Main Tourist AttractionsThe AlhambraA recognised world heritage site and the most visited tourist attraction in Granada. The Alhambra is a fortress and palace built by the Moorish kings of the Nasrid dynasty. The palace is surrounded by the Generalife gardens.
Natural ParksAlmería and Granada have a variety of natural parks including the Cabo de Gata-Níjar, Sierra María-Los Vélez, Sierra Nevada and Sierra Castril natural parks. Parque Natural de Sierra María-Vélez is a natural park covering over 18,962 Hectares of land with pine forests, plants and a variety of wildlife and bird life. BeachesAndalucía is famous for the quality of its beaches, which offer safe and clean water for swimmers and water sports enthusiasts. There are many beaches along the Costa de Almería and the Costa Tropical, which offer different facilities for different needs. The Costa de Almería provides both developed tourist resorts to the west and relatively untouched natural areas and coves to the east. There are naturist beaches in Vera. There are also traditional fishing ports and marinas to explore. The Costa Tropical is considered to be particularly picturesque as it has views of the mountains and many coves. The main tourist resorts are situated around Motril. There are fishing villages such as La Rábita and La Mamola as well as protected coves that attract tourists. The blue flag is an internationally recognised award given to beaches and marinas that fulfil certain criteria including facilities, water quality, environmental issues and public access and safety.
