Homosexuality was banned in Spain until 1978. In recent years the law has been forward thinking and Spain was one of the first European countries to legalise same-sex marriage. The legal age of consent for gay and lesbian couples in Spain is 16.

Gay Associations

Based in Barcelona but active throughout Spain's cities, Casal Lambda offers guidance for gays and lesbians as well as a centre for information and documentation. It works to provide counselling, information and solidarity among gays and lesbians and make public institutions, political parties and society in general aware of gay and lesbian concerns.
